Jamaica (Jul 2010)

I took a last minute trip to Jamaica with my family in July. We spent a lot of time laying by the beach, but also got out to see the rest of the island. This gallery is a compilation of pictures from my Nikon D90 as well as our point & shoot cameras, and even a disposable underwater camera we brought along for the snorkeling.

Emily and I waiting outside the "Asian" restaraunt. The main dinner area was in Rose Hall, which was a giant buffet. The first night, they had this special made hot chocolate drink! There were other "specialty" restaraunts including Asian, Italian, and a Steakhouse.

  • A view of the front desk at our hotel, the Riu. I didn't have a tripod for this shot, but liked how the lights glimmered in all of the humidity.
  • This is the view from the beach at our hotel. The island across the way was a Sandals island.

  • Group shot of Dad, Em's and I before dinner.
  • Mom and Dad before dinner.
  • Emily and I at the "Asian" specialty restaurant. They gave us "menus" that basically listed all the items at the buffet.
  • Mom and Emily waiting outside of the "Italian" restaurant.
  • Mom and I outside at the Riu.
  • Mom and Dad outside at the Riu.
  • This one's inside the Italian restaurant. Surprisingly, the food was pretty good.
  • A group shot of all of us after cleaning our plates at the Italian restaurant.
  • A shot from our taxi as we were touring about Montego Bay. There were lots of houses still under construction... as we later found out, a lot of people slowly build their houses as they have the money because interest rates on loans are so high.
  • We stopped at the craft market, which turned out to be row after row of very similar stores filled with shirts, wood carvings, pictures, etc.
  • One of the craft shops had a big basket of shells.
  • A view inside one of the craft shops. This one had giant speakers inside! The vendors were really pushy about coming to their store.
  • Just as we got to the craft market, it started pouring rain and we all got soaked.
  • World Cup fever was alive in Jamaica too! This lady was celebrating after Spain's victory. She's actually waving a Spain flag, but I couldn't get a wide enough shot.
  • I can't decide whether I liked this one or the panorama photo better. After cropping the panorama, I actually like them both.
  • I made our taxi driver stop for this shot of the bay from one of the parks, and it was well worth it.
  • Mom and Dad in front of a park during our trip into the city to see Montego Bay.
