Napa Valley & Bay Area (Dec 2009)

Sasha and I spent the day in Calistoga (Napa Valley) for wine tasting at three wineries: Bennett Lane, Clos Pegase, and Castello di Amorosa (a castle!!). The next day, Sasha had the great idea of stopping at the Palace of Fine Arts, where there was some really great greek-inspired architecture. I also wanted to get some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, so we stopped on the Marin County side on the way to my Aunt's house.

  • A view from the courtyard in the castle. The courtyard looked really neat at night with strings of lights hanging above.
  • I couldn't take a lot of good pictures in the castle because I didn't have a tripod, but a few came out with my built-in flash. This is a candle room within the castle.
  • Rows of empty wine bottles stacked down one of the halls in the castle.
  • There was a room filled with all sorts of mideivel torture devices, including this chair. Although tempted, I didn't try it out to see how comfy it was.
  • The tour guide pointed out that they store their wines in French Oak barrells. This was a huge room of their wine aging in French Oak.
  • This room was decorated wit some neat murals.
  • This is my first (and probably only) attempt at taking a picture myself of Sasha and I with my big, clunky digital SLR. Not as easy as with the point and shoot!
  • A view of our tasting room. We got to try 11 of the 12 wines they were tasting.
  • Sasha had the great idea of stopping at the Palace of Fine Arts. I have no idea why they call it that, but there was some really neat architecture, and a small "lake."
  • Looking on at the Palace of Fine Arts.
  • A close-up of one of the many birds. Maybe a seagull?
  • Sasha at the Palace of Fine Arts.
  • Sasha being all cute in front of the Palace of Fine arts. My muse.
  • I think this is my favorite picture of the trip - looking on at the columns at Palace of the Fine Arts. HDR photo.
  • Trees framing the water and columns at the Palace of Fine Arts.
  • The first of Sasha's mad photography skillz, at the Palace of Fine Arts. She stole my camera a few times.
  • I think this is Sasha's best picture, but I might be a little biased.
  • More neat architecture at the Palace of Fine Arts. There's not a lot of perspective in this photo, but the staircase was actually about 15-20 feet tall.
  • At the Palace of Fine Arts.
  • Some perspective of how big the columns really are. That's a tiny Sasha standing next to one.
