Napa Valley & Bay Area (Dec 2009)

Sasha and I spent the day in Calistoga (Napa Valley) for wine tasting at three wineries: Bennett Lane, Clos Pegase, and Castello di Amorosa (a castle!!). The next day, Sasha had the great idea of stopping at the Palace of Fine Arts, where there was some really great greek-inspired architecture. I also wanted to get some pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, so we stopped on the Marin County side on the way to my Aunt's house.

  • According to our tour guide, this marble statue from Italy is their most prized possession. HDR photo.
  • They displayed artwork and had a painter between the entrance to the tasting room and the caves.
  • The whole vineyard was full of neat artwork. This is a sculpture on the way to the caves.
  • This is the only picture from the caves that ended up making the cut. Mainly because I like the gnome. I didn't have a tripod, so most of my pictures in the caves came out either blurry or lit too bright from the flash.

  • A painter was on hand, painting as folks strolled in and out of the tasting room.
  • A closer view of the vines at Close Pegase.
  • The last stop for the day was Castello di Amorosa, a giant castle that took over a decade to build. This is a view looking down the road, with the castle behind.

  • I stopped along the walkway to the castle for this picture.

  • A view looking out from the castle.
  • Even though it was over a month past Halloween, we found pumpkins sitting on the drawbridge into the castle.
  • More pumpkins sat along the walls in the castle. HDR photo.
